Chicago Grease Interceptor Pumping

Grease Interceptor Pumping Services in Chicago

Chicago, Illinois, is famous for having a vast number of some of the best food service establishments per individual. This means that grease interceptor companies have the perfect opportunity to step up and provide these food establishments with peace of mind by servicing their waste grease systems. Chicago Grease Interceptor Pumping has managed to establish a top-tier reputation for being the best in Illinois.

Can you imagine how Chicago would look like without grease interceptors and other related equipment? They would be a complete mess! The city’s sewage system would eventually get chocked by thousands of gallons of waste food solids, insoluble grease, waste fat and oil flooding the system every day. After a short while, the system would give in and grind to a halt. Luckily, that’s not going to happen. Thanks to the ingenious engineering of experts, grease interceptors trap these contaminants cutting them off before they can get to the sewer pipe. That’s why the law requires the installation of grease traps to protect the integrity of the city’s sewage system.

How to schedule maintenance for your grease trap

How regular should I schedule maintenance to keep my grease trap working correctly and within compliance of the law?

Local authorities do not joke around when it comes to preventing oil, grease, and solid food waste from getting into the sewage system. Any blockage resulting from oil spills or any of the mentioned contaminants are almost definitely to be followed by hefty fines and sometimes even closure until compliance is met. Of course, if you’re running a food establishment in Chicago catering to vegans, the time spent between cleanings will be substantially increased.

Due to these differences, your restaurant could need monthly grease trap cleaning and pumping, especially if you make food using a lot of greases and oil. However, if you rarely use oil or grease to prepare food, then you may just need to schedule for grease trap pumping twice a year. A majority of jurisdictions require that all containment tanks should never go beyond a 30% capacity. So, to stay safe, pump and clean your grease interceptor when it reaches 25%.

The “25%” factor

When the grease containment tank reaches a capacity of 30%, there is often an increased risk of a hazardous overflow of oil, solid food waste, and grease into the environment or the sewer system. For this reason, a 25% industry standard was set to reduce the probability of such an event happening. Keeping the capacity of the grease trap below the 30% threshold is an essential safety requirement to prevent future grease interceptor problems.

Try always to remember the “25%” factor. Because even in humongous tanks, where overflowing is rare, the 25% factor still applies, at least when it comes to Chicago’s health inspectors, who won’t hesitate to issue penalties and fines the moment your tank exceeds 30%.

How should I schedule for my small indoor grease trap?

Since many restaurants just need an indoor grease trap interceptor, then it makes sense that the intervals of pumping indoor interceptors should be less than those for enormous outdoor interceptor tanks. Local neighborhood establishments often use small indoor grease trap interceptors of five to fifty gallons. Due to the low capacity of these tanks compared to the massive size of the outdoor types, indoor tanks should be scheduled for cleaning and pumping at least once a month, if not sooner.

How often should I schedule for underground grease trap interceptors located outside?

If you have a large restaurant, then you know that it doesn’t make sense to install a grease trap interceptor of 750 to 5000 gallons indoors. That’s why large food establishments choose to install grease trap tanks outdoors since this also creates room for more massive tanks and sophisticated plumbing. Many establishments will opt to install these tanks somewhere under a sidewalk or parking lot. While initial installation can be quite costly in terms of time and money, you’ll save a lot on maintenance since large grease trap interceptors need servicing only two or four times a year.
